Chapter Seven
‡
It seemed like ages since they’d gotten together for a simple breakfast, but for once, Zach, Julian, and Marcus managed to not be busy at the same time. They met in the city, at a small diner in Tribeca. Julian, being the most organized, was the first to arrive and was waiting for Zach when he walked into the restaurant.
“Zach, how are you?” They hugged, and Zach pulled off his scarf, then unzipped his jacket. “Getting all excited for the big day?”
“Yes. And once again, thanks for letting us use the house. I’m hoping we can be neighbors soon out there. I’ve been looking at places for Sam and me by the beach.”
The hostess showed them to a table in the back. “You said there’d be one more joining you?”
“Yes, but he’s always late.” Julian picked up the menu.
The words barely made it out of Julian’s mouth before Zach spotted Marcus striding toward them from the front.
“Not this time. Look.” Zach waved at Marcus who pulled out his chair and flopped down, panting heavily. “Hey, what’s wrong?”
Julian’s fair brows arched in surprise. “We figured we’d have two rounds of coffee before you’d haul your ass out of bed.”
“Very fucking funny.” Marcus picked up his water glass and gulped down half. “The bus never came to pick up Lillie this morning, so I had to take her uptown, then come right back downtown to meet you guys.” At the sight of the busboy approaching with the coffeepot, Marcus’s eyes lit up. “Oh, thank God, yes. All the coffee, please.”
“Aren’t you the little domesticated diva.” Julian chuckled and took a sip of his coffee.
“Shut up, Juli. Don’t you have some tutus to design?”
Zach grinned and sat back in his chair, satisfied that all was right in his world now that the three of them were together and Marcus and Julian were play-fighting.
“You’ll be happy to know I’ve spoken to fashion bloggers and buyers about Lillie-bug Designs and they’re all interested in seeing the finished product. They want me to contact them when the line is ready to show.”
Marcus drained his cup of coffee and perused the menu. “I think I should get a cut of the profits. After all, you’re using my nickname for her.”
“That could be arranged.”
“Wow,” said Zach. “That’s awfully generous, Julian.”
“Spoken by the man who gave me enough money to make not only my business possible and profitable, but the ability to buy the beach house we always wanted.”
Zach shrugged. “Money didn’t make your business a success; you did. And I know I’d never have been able to accomplish what I did without the support from both of you.”
“I used the money from the sale of the stock you gave me to help Tyler with his dance studio. He’s so busy now; he’s planning on hiring a new instructor to keep up with the demand.”
“That’s great, Marcus. Tell Tyler I’m thrilled for him.” It made Zach happy knowing he’d helped both his friends.
“I will.”
Their food came, and Zach doused his waffles with maple syrup.
